Job Description

The company is a leading, clinical-stage gene therapy company founded in 2001, focusing on neuromuscular, central nervous system, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases. The company is conducting clinical trials for Pompe disease, Parkinson's disease, and congestive heart failure.

Position: Facilities Engineer

The Facilities Engineer will assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of facilities across multiple sites within the RTP Hub.


Responsibilities

  • Work with the Facilities & Engineering team to manage and maintain proper building functionality inside and outside of laboratories, including but not limited to:
    • Emergency and non-emergency power systems
    • HVAC units
    • Cold storage
    • RODI water systems
    • Air compressors
    • Vacuum pumps
    • Other major utility systems
  • Perform daily site walkthroughs and verify functional checks on all major systems and utilities critical to daily operations.
  • Assisted with monitoring the building management system (BMS), investigating issues, and following procedures for appropriate solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment or utility problems, document findings, and report back to the Facilities & Engineering team. Execute solutions when assigned.
  • Attend weekly Facilities & Engineering stand-up team meetings and provide status updates on individual action items.
  • Participate in key project planning meetings for capital projects, raising concerns and pursuing resolutions throughout project implementation and delivery.
  • Support project delivery and monitor progress through assigned project deliverables, providing updates and recommendations to the internal engineering team.
  • Manage and ensure the timely completion of service ticket requests from internal users.
  • Coordinate with internal customers on status updates for complex issues that escalate into projects.
  • Collaborate across departments such as EH&S, QA, Lab Operations, and Capital Projects to address stakeholder and vendor challenges.
  • Comply with safety initiatives set by EH&S to ensure departmental and organizational compliance.
  • Assist lab operations and department requests for equipment setup in various labs across the organization.

About You

  • Education: BS/BA required.
  • Experience: 4–7 years in an Engineering/Facilities role.
  • Preferred Background:
    • Mechanical or electrical engineering experience is a plus.
    • Strong building utilities systems & HVAC experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge and experience using BMS systems.
    • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry and laboratory settings.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic office skills using MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with CMMS systems, CAD, and other design programs is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently as well as in a team.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external teams.
