Job Title: Tax Analyst
Location: Omaha, Nebraska, 68124
Type: General Staffing (Contract)
Duration: 5 Months initially.

Job Description:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly sales/use tax returns, ensuring timely submission and payment, including Minnesota compressor fuel use tax liability accruals (25-30%).
  • Review monthly tax accruals for appropriateness.
  • Answer technical questions about sales and use taxes on specific transactions or invoices, and adjust tax rates in proprietary software (10-15%).
  • Review tax holds daily, research and resolve issues (10-15%).
  • Assist with updating the monthly tax forecast (10-15%).
  • Support FERC regulatory reporting and rate case filings regarding sales/use and property tax, and prepare Form 2 schedules related to taxes (10-15%).
  • Assist in preparing responses for audits by federal and state tax authorities with the help of the manager (5-10%).
  • Research complex tax questions as needed (5-10%).
  • Prepare special projects or tax filings as assigned (5-10%).
  • Identify potential tax issues, opportunities for tax savings, and ways to enhance tax compliance efficiency (5-10%).
  • Help maintain permanent tax files and records (5-10%).
  • Enhance tax knowledge through reading technical newsletters, attending tax seminars, and networking within Berkshire Hathaway Energy (5-10%).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field (finance, business administration) or equivalent related work experience (typically six years of related, progressive work experience is needed for candidates without a bachelor's degree).
  • Two or more years of practical accounting experience, with at least one year of relevant tax experience.
  • Experience with Vertex or tax engine software is preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to create schedules and reconciliations that summarize the company's tax position succinctly.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Extended work hours will be required, especially during critical periods such as planning or tax compliance filing processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills and aptitude necessary to operate work-related software efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of taxation principles.
