  • Job Title: Project Manager - Hydro Generation Projects
  • Location: Richmond, VA / Bath County, VA (Richmond office with regular travel to Bath County)
  • Duration : 15 months with opportunity for extension
  • Pay Rate: $80/hr – $95/hr (W2)
  • Per Diem will be offered at GSA CONUS, Standard Rate for Virginia, 7 days/week if qualified
  • $500 mobilization/demobilization one time at beginning and end of assignment.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead capital projects at a major hydroelectric generating facility. The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing power generation, hydroelectric, construction, engineering, equipment rehabilitation, and major maintenance projects from planning through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hydroelectric generation and dam improvement projects from concept through completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, forecasts, contracts, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Oversee projects involving:
  1. Turbine-generator rehabilitation
  2. Wicket gate replacements
  3. Spherical valve overhauls
  4. Dam safety improvements
  5. Spillway modifications
  6. Structural repairs
  7. Balance-of-plant improvements
  • Coordinate engineering, operations, maintenance, environmental, regulatory, and contractor teams.
  • Manage contractors, suppliers, commercial activities, and project negotiations.
  • Ensure projects meet safety, environmental, regulatory, schedule, and financial requirements.
  • Lead project meetings, stakeholder communications, reporting, commissioning, startup, turnover, and closeout.
  • Manage multiple projects and effectively resolve technical and construction-related issues.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in construction, engineering, power generation, or project management.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience with major power generation equipment such as:
  1. Turbines
  2. Generators
  3. Pumps
  4. Motors
  5. Control systems
  6. Electrical/instrumentation
  7. Balance-of-plant systems
  • Strong experience with project budgets, schedules, contracts, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of construction and field operations practices.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and industry safety requirements.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, specifications, and instructions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.

Highly Preferred Experience

Candidates with direct experience in hydroelectric/hydropower projects are strongly preferred, particularly experience with:

  • Hydroelectric generating stations
  • Pumped-storage facilities
  • Dam infrastructure
  • Turbine-generator rehabilitation
  • Spherical valves
  • Wicket gate assemblies
  • Major equipment overhauls
  • Major maintenance outages
  • Capital improvement projects
  • Power plant modernization/rehabilitation

Field Requirements

  • The selected candidate must be comfortable working in a power-generation field environment, including confined spaces, climbing stairs/ladders, and wearing required PPE/respiratory protection.
  • The position will be based out of Richmond, VA, with time spent at the hydroelectric facility in Bath County, VA, depending on project requirements.
